Ravens HC John Harbaugh: ‘I Don’t Anticipate Any Issues At All’ With Marcus Peters

OWINGS MILLS, MD. — Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said he expects no lingering effects from the public spat he and cornerback Marcus Peters had in the closing seconds of the Ravens’ 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 2.

The Ravens opted against kicking a potential go-ahead field goal with about four minutes left, as Harbaugh kept the offense on the field to try for a go-ahead touchdown on fourth down from the Bills’ 2-yard line. Lamar Jackson’s pass was intercepted in the end zone, and the Bills subsequently drove the length of the field to win on a 21-yard field goal as time expired.

An irate Peters stormed off the field just before the game-winning kick, and he and Harbaugh got into a heated shouting match. Peters was restrained by defensive backs coach Chris Hewitt, then slammed his helmet in frustration before going to the locker room.

After the game, Harbaugh chalked the exchange up to the heat of the moment, and said he has a great relationship with the fiery Peters.

“Emotions run high,” Harbaugh said minutes after the game. “We’re on the same page, he and I. We have a great relationship. We have an honest relationship.”

Speaking at his Monday news conference, Harbaugh said, “I don’t anticipate any issues at all” going forward regarding Peters.

“Marcus is an emotional guy. I’m an emotional guy,” Harbaugh said. “I’m not worried about that at all. We’ll be fine. … Unless things have changed — and I’ll talk to him when the opportunity comes up — we’re going to be great friends for the rest of our lives.”

Peters has not met with the media since the incident; he left the locker room on Oct. 2 before media were allowed in.

The team’s next session with the media is Wednesday, Oct. 5 as the Ravens prepare for a “Sunday Night Football” showdown Oct. 9 at M&T Bank Stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals.
