Scottie Scheffler to win 3/1
Oakmont requires accuracy, good decisions and bogey avoidance. Scheffler is the preeminent player in the world at each. If he’s putting well, he runs away with it. lf he’s putting all right, he will be in contention. If he’s putting poorly, which he hasn’t lately, he won’t win. It’s as simple as that to me. In the beginning of the year, it looked like he came back to earth. In reality, he had a cut on his hand and that looks like more of a brief blip on the radar amidst the most dominant non-Tiger run in modern golf. My true recommendation is to wait until Friday midday, see if you can nab Scottie around 4/1 or 5/1 at better odds, before he casually shoots 68/68 to close out the tournament and win.

Bryson DeChambeau Top 10
The reigning U.S. Open champion has played fantastic major championship golf. He hits the ball a country mile, with better driving accuracy than most of the field. He has won two U.S. Opens already, and with Oakmont’s five-inch rough, he has the clubhead speed to power through it. The question for Bryson is distance control, where he has struggled a bit, not leaving himself enough birdie chances despite his monster drives. If his wedges are dialed, he will win.

Ludvig Aberg Top 10
The young phenom fell into some bad spurts of golf this year, the first stumble in his career, following a breakout 2024 and early win at Pebble Beach. This course requires driving accuracy and precise approaches. Aberg has shown it at Augusta and showed enough out of the rough at Muirfield to put confidence into scrambling.

Harris English Top 20
English quietly hasn’t missed a major cut in five straight, has three Top 10 finishes at the U.S. Open in the 2020’s and is in great form with eight straight made cuts. He finished tied for 12th at Augusta and tied for second at Quail Hollow. If you want a dark horse, English is it.

Sam Burns + Cam Young Top 30
Two hot young golfers who stumbled hard but have regained form, especially off the tee. I think the U.S. Open brings out the best in them.

Justin Thomas to miss the cut
Thomas is wild off the tee and has struggled at majors as of late. Bad recipe. I hope I’m wrong.

Brooks Koepka to win 65/1
Have to put $10 on the brawny brawler who has won major championships at tough courses in rough conditions out of respect.
