2021 marks PressBox’s fifth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best College Athletes: Anthony Tarke
Coppin State was Anthony Tarke’s third stop of his college hoops journey, but it proved to be the best fit for the Gaithersburg native.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard averaged 16.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game en route to 2020-21 MEAC Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Tarke is now with the Motor City Cruise, the NBA G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons.
He played his final year of college ball at Coppin under head coach Juan Dixon with the NBA in mind.
“He said he believes I’m an NBA player, that I fit the mold,” Tarke said last winter. “He played in the league and under his tutelage and with my ability, it can all come together.”
