2022 marks PressBox’s sixth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Perseverance
Former Maryland third baseman Jose Cuas was working for FedEx in 2018. In May 2022, he was making his major league debut with the Kansas City Royals … as a relief pitcher. You know, that old story. Cuas converted to a sidearm delivery as he trained (while also delivering packages) and was eventually signed by the Royals in 2021. He finished the season 4-2 with a 3.58 ERA in 47 appearances.
