2022 marks PressBox’s sixth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Boys’ Coach
The football team that wins the MIAA A Conference earns the Mike Whittles Trophy, named for the former Archbishop Spalding coach who died of pancreatic cancer in 2012. In November, Spalding won that trophy for the first time since moving up to the A Conference in 2011. Under the leadership of coach Kyle Schmitt, the Cavaliers defeated Calvert Hall, 34-10, to cap off an 11-1 season. Spalding has won 21 of 23 games dating back to the start of the 2021 season. Schmitt has something special cooking in Severn.
