2022 marks PressBox’s sixth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Fortnight
In late August and early September, Hyattsville native Frances Tiafoe put together a run for the ages at the U.S. Open. Wearing a University of Maryland wristband as he played, Tiafoe stunned tennis icon Rafael Nadal in the fourth round en route to becoming the first American man to reach the semifinals in Flushing since 2006. He ultimately dropped a five-set thriller to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semis, but he gave fans plenty to cheer for and was celebrated at Maryland football and basketball games in the following months.
