2022 marks PressBox’s sixth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Deflection
The Navy men’s soccer team had defeated Lafayette and Boston University to get to the Patriot League championship game before finding itself in the middle of a scoreless draw late in regulation against American with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. Navy forward A.J. Schuetz ran the ball into the left side of the penalty area, then attempted a crosser … only for it to deflect off American defender Nevin Baer and into the net for a Patriot League title. And you thought deflections only happened in hockey.
