“My conversations with [pitching coach Chris Holt, bullpen coach Darren Holmes and major league pitching strategy coach Ryan Klimek] and all of the pitching department in the offseason, that was part of the decision to come here, because I felt like those guys have a really good handle on what they were doing. They just seemed like they had a really good process.”

“I learned that you have to fail. I hate failing and I hate falling, but if I didn’t get hurt or I didn’t have those bad games where I just cried all night, it wouldn’t have gotten me better as a [player] or an individual, so learn to be OK with being uncomfortable and failing. That is something that I learned.”

“Before my press conference, I walked around the campus. I took that moment to bring it all in, to [see] first and foremost how it was when I first walked on that campus, and then to see where it is now. … I did have that moment. “I definitely don’t want to close any doors now. I mean, if I didn’t prove to the world that I was a competitor with going out and doing the bench press after a torn ACL, I don’t know what other proof you need. … We’ve got a long year, and I anticipate the Baltimore Ravens playing pretty late into the season, so definitely not going to rule anything out this early on. We’ll just take it day by day.”
