Ravens TE Mark Andrews Walks Away From ‘Significant’ Car Crash

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Ravens All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews walked away from a “significant” car crash on Aug. 14, and both he and head coach John Harbaugh were left praising seat belts after a morning accident that could have derailed Andrews’ career.

According to The Baltimore Sun, based on police reports, Andrews was involved in a two-car crash about two miles from the Ravens complex, and both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

The Ravens in a statement said Andrews was evaluated by the Ravens’ medical staff at their Under Armour Performance Center and “did not suffer any apparent injuries.”

Harbaugh said he received a text after the accident that indicated Andrews was OK.

“Maybe that softened it a little bit,” Harbaugh said. “I saw that he was OK. He was OK, I was OK.”

Asked about the accident after practice, Harbaugh said, “Wear your seat belts. Mark wore his seat belt, and that was an accident that happened, and it was pretty significant, I believe, and he came out of it with nothing — nothing at all — not a scrape. We’re thankful to God for that, for him coming out of that safe, and for God protecting him in that circumstance.”

In a statement released through the team, Andrews said, “I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and well wishes. This is a great reminder of wearing seat belts and remaining alert while driving a car.”

Andrews is expected to be one of the team’s top offensive weapons, as he has been since pretty much he and Lamar Jackson entered the league together in 2018.

Andrews missed the final six regular-season games of 2023 while dealing with an ankle injury. He finished the season with 45 catches for 544 yards and six touchdowns. In 2021, Andrews set franchise records for receptions (107) and receiving yards (1,361).

Andrews was scheduled to have a day off from practice on Aug. 14, according to the statement, and he is expected to return to the practice field “in the coming days.”
