Orioles RHP Corbin Burnes On Why He Is Hosting ‘Uncork For A Cause’ Event

Orioles ace Corbin Burnes is hosting an “Uncork for a Cause” event at Four Seasons Hotel in Harbor East on Sept. 2 to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities Maryland, the continuation of the charity work Burnes began early in his days in pro ball.

The Milwaukee Brewers traded the right-hander to the Orioles on Feb. 1. Burnes said the first thing he and his wife Brooke wanted to lock in after the trade was this event to continue their work with the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which provides essential services for families when children need healthcare. He and his wife have worked with RMHC for the past eight years dating back to the right-hander’s minor league days with the Brewers.

The event is particularly poignant this year for Burnes and his wife, who welcomed twins to the world in late June and now have three children.

“Us having three kids now and knowing what a mother or father would go through if they had a kid going through something … and someone reached out to help them was just something that we thought was special and we wanted to be a part of,” Burnes said on Glenn Clark Radio Aug. 20.

The event at Four Seasons Hotel will combine baseball and wine. Guests will have a chance to sample wine from Napa Valley and Sonoma County wineries like Blackbird Vineyards, Christopher Creek Winery, Ketcham Estate, Viszlay Vineyards and more. Guests will also walk away with Burnes’ own California Reserve red wine.

Guests can rub shoulders with Orioles players and staff while trying all sorts of wine. The event is scheduled for 7-10 p.m., after the Orioles-White Sox game earlier in the day.

“Slowly over the years I just started getting into wine a little bit,” Burnes said. “My dad’s been in the wine space for almost 10 years now. I kind of enjoyed getting to taste the different kinds of wine, the varieties. When I was approached a couple years ago to do this I was like, ‘It’s perfect, the perfect matchup of wanting to give back and the love for wine that me and my wife have.’ … There’s obviously some whiskey for people that aren’t wine lovers. Get the team there, get some auction items and raise as much money as we could. It was a great event last year.”

Guests will also have a chance to bid on a variety of auction items, include game-used Orioles gear. Tickets can be purchased here, all to benefit the RMHC.

“Just the thought of your family member going through something and not having a place to stay and those guys reaching out and making things as smooth as possible is something that hits home close to us,” Burnes said.
