It became apparent why Orioles players respect James McCann so much on July 29, when Blue Jays right-hander Yariel Rodriguez hit the catcher in the face with a 95 mph fastball in the first inning of a doubleheader at Camden Yards.
Blood gushed out of McCann’s nose until he … got up and walked to first base?!?!
He then replaced his bloody jersey with a fresh one, packed his nose with gauze and played with a broken nose for the rest of the game so Adley Rutschman didn’t have to catch nearly two full games that day.
That’s a teammate.
