2024 marks PressBox’s eighth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Racing Duo
Wheelchair racer Daniel Romanchuk claimed his second career Paralympic gold medal in August, beating out defending champion Marcel Hug to win the 5000-meter T54 race. The Mount Airy native added a bronze in the 400-meter T54 in Paris, bringing his career total to four Paralympic medals. Hug probably needed one when Romanchuk bested him again at November’s New York Marathon, ending Hug’s streak of three straight wins in the race.
Also at the Paralympics, Tatyana McFadden (Atholton) won her 20th and 21st career medals. Raised in Clarksville, McFadden picked up a silver in the 100-meter T54 and a bronze in the mixed 4×100-meter relay.
