2024 marks PressBox’s eighth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Friendlies
After renovations prevented M&T Bank Stadium from hosting soccer in 2023, a big club friendly returned to the stadium in August, as AC Milan and FC Barcelona played to a 2-2 draw before Milan won in a shootout in front of more than 50,000 fans downtown. Polish legend Robert Lewandowski scored both goals for Barcelona. American phenom Christian Pulisic had a goal and assist for Milan.
That wasn’t even the only major club friendly in Maryland this year. In July, Crystal Palace defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers, 3-1, in a “Stateside Cup” match at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
