Orioles designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn has been voted in as a starter for the American League in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game.
O’Hearn beat out Yankees designated hitter Ben Rice to earn his first All-Star selection. Last year, Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and shortstop Gunnar Henderson were selected as starters and joined on the AL roster by right-hander Corbin Burnes, outfielder Anthony Santander and third baseman Jordan Westburg.
Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday was also a finalist but did not win the fan vote, which went to Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres.
O’Hearn is just the second Orioles designated hitter to make the All-Star team, joining Nelson Cruz (2014). The last Orioles second baseman to make an All-Star team was Jonathan Schoop in 2017. Brian Roberts made the All-Star roster twice (2005 and 2007), and three Orioles second basemen earned three All-Star nods during their careers — Roberto Alomar (1996, 1997, 1998), Bobby Grich (1972, 1974, 1976) and Dave Johnson (1968, 1969 and 1970).
Holliday’s father, Matt, was a seven-time MLB All-star during his career, earning his first All-Star nod in his third big league season in 2006.
The All-Star pitchers and reserves will be announced on Sunday, July 6 at 5 p.m. on ESPN.
