2025 marks PressBox’s ninth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best College Athletes: Rose Coats
In November, Maryland junior Rose Coats finished seventh out of 210 women in the NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Cross Country Regional in Bethlehem, Pa. She ran the 6k course in 19 minutes and 46.1 seconds, good enough to qualify for the Division I Women’s Cross Country Championship for a second straight year.
A couple of weeks earlier, Coats finished 10th out of 165 women in the Big Ten Cross Country Championships at Michigan State. She ran the 6k course in 20 minutes and 14.2 seconds, becoming the first Terp in program history to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors.
