The Preakness Stakes, typically run on the third weekend of May but postponed this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place Oct. 3, one month after the Kentucky Derby.

The new date was announced May 16 during NBC’s feature about American Pharoah’s Preakness win in 2015.

The Derby was rescheduled for Sept. 5. The Breeders Cup will be held Nov. 6-7. A new date for the Belmont Stakes has not yet been determined.

This year marks the first time since 1945 that the Preakness will be held sometime other than May.
