Throughout the past year, scores of current and former local athletes and coaches have taken active roles in the fight against COVID-19 and for social justice. These are just a few of their stories.

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Deonte Harris earned first-team All-Pro honors as a punt returner in 2019 as a rookie out of Division II Assumption College, but his biggest impact came well after the season.
In March, after the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the Archbishop Curley graduate donated 10,000-plus meals to the Second Harvest Food Bank in Louisiana and the Maryland Food Bank.
“I talked to my loved ones, talked to mom, my team and had a conversation with God and felt this was an opportunity for me to give back,” Harris said in April. “I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to be financially stable through this crisis, so for me to be able to give back is what I did.”
