I’m going to list my favorite plays for today’s slate of games. Things are always subject to change due to players sitting or games even being postponed. Make sure you are paying attention to any and all late-breaking news, and try to use common sense if a point spread moves up or down. The plays I LOVE are my top plays for the slate. Whether you fade or follow, good luck!

Rough one yesterday, or at least it feels that way. I went 4-5-1 and missed my top play. I had many people ask me why I was on the over in the Cardinals-White Sox game. Lots of factors, but I hate answering these questions after the fact. People don’t ask you after a win why you were on that side. But here was my reasoning before the game …

Everyone is going to look at the sub-2.00 ERA’s of the starting pitchers in that game (John Gant and Carlos Rodon) and think these are two great pitchers in a day game, meaning there’s a possibility one or both of these guys end up pitching well. Pitchers with those ERA’s are usually in games priced around 6.5-7.5 totals. I thought it was very telling that all the money was coming in on the under and the line was at 8.5. Plus, Cardinals best hitters are all right-handed — they do much better against left-handed pitching — and I’m waiting for the blowup game with Rodon. On the other side, the White Sox have so much power and the wind is blowing out at about 15 mph.

Now with all of that being said, that game had every opportunity to get blown open — it just never happened. Two separate opportunities with the bases loaded and one out. Also, I’m still pissed at Adam Eaton bunting with two guys on and no outs after Gant couldn’t throw a strike. But that was my line of thinking and it was a loser. On to tonight …
