Three Maryland Casinos Inch Closer To Getting Sports Betting Licenses

By Jessica Iannetta | Baltimore Business Journal

Three Maryland casinos received preliminary approval Oct. 6 to offer sports betting at their venues as the state inches closer to seeing its first in-person wagers.

Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, Live Casino & Hotel in Hanover and MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill all received approval from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission to move onto the next step in the process of acquiring sports betting licenses. The casinos’ applications will now head to the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission, a seven-member panel responsible for awarding Maryland’s first licenses.

That panel is set to meet on Oct. 14 and if the licenses are awarded, Maryland Lottery will work with the casinos to ensure they have “finalized their systems of internal controls and satisfied other operational requirements” before formally issuing the licenses, according to a release.
