2021 marks PressBox’s fifth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Legislation
Maryland was one of many states that forced the NCAA to finally (FINALLY. FINALLY!!!) take action regarding name, image and likeness rights for student-athletes.
The legislature passed the Jordan McNair Safe and Fair Play Act in March, a bill that was later signed into law by Gov. Larry Hogan.
More importantly for the family of the late former Maryland and McDonogh offensive lineman, the legislation also brought further regulation to protect athletes throughout the state, hopefully preventing any future unnecessary and unfathomable tragedies.
Co-sponsored by Democratic Del. Brooke Lierman and Republican Sen. Justin Ready, it received full and quite refreshing bipartisan support.
