Best New Sport
Across all divisions, there are 86 NCAA women’s beach volleyball programs. There are zero NCAA men’s beach volleyball programs.
Stevenson University plans to change that. In September, the school hosted the first-ever USA Volleyball Men’s Collegiate Beach Challenge. USA Volleyball used the event to identify players who could move into its Olympic pipeline.
But the event was perhaps even more significant for the Mustangs, who used the weekend to publicly declare their intentions to become the first NCAA school to make men’s beach volleyball a varsity sport.
