2021 marks PressBox’s fifth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best On The Pitch
It probably wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call Jacob Murrell the Alex Ovechkin of local soccer.
Murrell had 41 goals and 20 assists — including seven hat tricks — for the McDonogh boys’ soccer team this fall. The Eagles (21-3-0) scored 79 goals this season, meaning Murrell was directly involved in 77.2 percent of their goals.
Murrell will play soccer at Georgetown next fall. Expect a few more fireworks on the pitch in the Big East.
