2021 marks PressBox’s fifth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Postseason Breakthrough
For a fifth straight season, the Loyola men’s soccer team won at least a share of the Patriot League regular-season title (or in the case of the spring 2021 season, the South Division title).
After all four of those regular-season triumphs, the Greyhounds failed to advance past the Patriot League semifinals. But they don’t have to shoulder that weight any longer.
In November, the Hounds dramatically got past Army in penalty kicks to finally reach the Patriot League championship. They then defeated American in the title game thanks to a dramatic last-second save from goalkeeper and Phoenix, Md., native Chase Vosvick to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008.
