There are some weeks when the waiver wire is littered with players who can help out your fantasy teams for a stretch of time. Then there are weeks like this one when it’s hard to find an impact player. Fantasy players don’t always have to add off the waiver wire, and that’s something that is overlooked. We always have the temptation to keep tinkering with our rosters, but sometimes that’s not the best strategy.

Waiver-Wire Targets:

Miami Marlins Reliever Tanner Scott — The left-hander was mentioned previously, but the fantasy community has still not jumped on board. Scott is still under 35 percent owned in Yahoo! Sports leagues, and that is unacceptable for a closer. Scott has been racking up saves for the entire month and no one has noticed. Scott has seven saves for the season, two this past week and has only allowed three earned runs this month. The Marlins continue to play competitive baseball as well and it appears Scott will get the ball in the ninth with the game on the line.

San Diego Padres Catcher/Outfielder Jorge Alfaro — The 29-year-old is having a strong month of June, as he’s hitting .333 with four home runs, nine RBIs and nine runs scored. Alfaro is also batting in the middle of the Padres’ lineup, which we love. He has position flexibility with one of those positions being catcher. Alfaro did have a productive season in 2019 with 18 home runs, but he hasn’t been on the fantasy radar in a few years. We don’t know how long he can keep this up, but we’ll ride the hot streak for as long as it lasts.

Texas Rangers First Baseman Nathaniel Lowe — If you’re targeting another player who is having a good month then Lowe is your guy. The first baseman is batting .304 with six home runs, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored in June. Overall, Lowe is batting .274 with nine home runs, 28 RBIs, 27 runs scored and a stolen base. There’s nothing flashy, but Lowe is a solid overall player that can help fill out a roster.

Tampa Bay Rays Infielder Isaac Paredes — The Rays are dealing with a ton of injuries which will open the door for other players to be given an opportunity. Paredes has hit four home runs this past week and has collected five hits in his last three games. The overall numbers don’t look great, as he’s only hitting .211, but with nine home runs, there is some pop in his bat and we’ll see if he can continue this power surge.
