Waiver-Wire Targets:

Atlanta Braves Infielder Vaughn Grissom

The 21-year-old made his debut on Aug. 10 and already entered the record books. Grissom is the youngest player in the modern era of baseball (since 1900) to hit a home run and steal a base in his debut. Grissom is the ranked as the Braves’ No. 1 prospect and has had a strong 2022 in the minors. He hit .324 with 14 home runs and 27 stolen bases between High-A and Double-A.

The youngster was promoted due to Orlando Arcia landing on the injured list and will be given an opportunity to showcase his skills on an everyday basis. Second baseman Ozzie Albies will be returning in a couple of weeks and Arcia may only be sidelined for that long as well, so we’re not sure if Grissom will be around for the rest of the season. However, he’s talented and has the ability to hit for power and steal bases and is well worth grabbing off the waiver wire. If he’s demoted in a couple of weeks, we had a nice boost to our team for that stretch.

St. Louis Cardinals Infielder Paul DeJong

We will ignore the season stats. DeJong is batting .184, which earned him a trip back to the minors. However, since returning from the minors, DeJong has hit four home runs while driving in 13 runs and batting near the middle of the order. This is a player who has a track record of power, but the average hasn’t been great. If you need a boost in the power department during the next few weeks, DeJong should provide that.

Colorado Rockies Infielder Elehuris Montero

Montero has had a couple stints in the big leagues this season, but hopefully the latest promotion will be for good. Montero was called up for the minors on Aug. 2 and has not stopped hitting. The infielder has collected 13 hits this month, including a home run. The power is legit, as Montero hit 28 home runs in 2021 and had 15 this season in the minors in only 65 games. To get a power hitter who plays home games in Colorado is a dream come true this late in the season. That puts Montero firmly on the fantasy radar.
