Three Up:
1. New York Yankees Outfielder Aaron Judge — The frontrunner for the American League MVP award keeps hitting home runs, and there’s no doubt that many fantasy baseball champions this season will have the slugger on their roster. Judge hit five home runs in the past week (Aug. 29-Sept. 5) and now has an eye-popping 54 home runs. We’re officially on 60 home run watch in the next final weeks … and Judge is currently batting .302 with 117 RBIs.
2. San Francisco Giants Outfielder Joc Pederson — The outfielder had an amazing week, hitting .471 with three home runs, 13 RBIs and six runs scored. Pederson has always been a streaky hitter, and he’s currently on another heater that can give fantasy players a boost. After hitting .133 in the month of July, Pederson finished August batting .357. That streak has continued in September. Fantasy managers are hoping he can stay hot for another couple of weeks.
3. Chicago White Sox Starting Pitcher Dylan Cease — It’s been an amazing season for the right-hander, but his Sept. 3 start may have been his best. Cease was one out shy of pitching a no-hitter, but finished the game allowing just one hit while striking out seven. For the season, Cease has a 2.13 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 197 strikeouts.
Three Down:
1. St. Louis Cardinals First Baseman Paul Goldschmidt — The first baseman is the frontrunner for the National League MVP award, but he had a rough week, striking out seven times and only collecting four hits. Goldschmidt is also chasing a Triple Crown, so bad weeks like this aren’t great when it comes to that. Overall, Goldschmidt is batting .328 with 34 home runs and 107 RBIs.
2. Baltimore Orioles Outfielder Cedric Mullins — The outfielder had a rough week, collecting only four hits while striking out eight times. Mullins is coming off a strong August, when he batted .296 with three home runs, six RBIs, 14 runs scored and seven stolen bases. Mullins was never going to hit 30 home runs this season after showing off the power in 2021, but it’s good to see him continue with the stolen bases. He currently has 29 and should eclipse last year’s total of 30.
3. Milwaukee Brewers Starting Pitcher Corbin Burnes — The right-hander has been so good this season that after allowing a total of 10 earned runs in his last two starts, Burnes’ ERA is now at 3.02. Burnes had an ERA of 2.36 to start the month of July but has seen it rise during the last two months. The second half has been brutal for the righty, as he has an ERA of 5.01. There’s not much fantasy managers can do but hope he figures it over and helps our teams in the final month.
