The Maryland men’s basketball team is off to a 5-0 start after winning the 2022 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off with wins against Saint Louis and Miami, and the Terps have been rewarded with a spot in the latest Associated Press top-25 poll.

Maryland is No. 23 in the newest poll released on Nov. 21. The Terps began last week with a 76-52 win against Binghamton Nov. 15, then traveled to Connecticut for a date with Saint Louis on Nov. 19. They defeated the Billikens, 95-67, to earn a matchup against Miami the next day. They beat the Hurricanes, 88-70.

Donta Scott

Maryland senior forward Donta Scott was the star of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off, posting 49 points, 13 rebounds and four assists between the two games. Fellow senior Hakim Hart had a big weekend as well, recording 30 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Sophomore big man Julian Reese had one of the best performances of his career against Miami, scoring 17 points, pulling down seven rebounds, dishing out two assists and blocking two shots.

One of the themes of the early portion of the season has been Maryland’s stifling defense. That continued in Connecticut, particularly against Saint Louis. The Terps held the Billikens to 36.2 percent shooting and turned them over 14 times.

Maryland takes on Juan Dixon’s Coppin State squad on Nov. 25 before taking on several big-name programs: Louisville (Nov. 29), Illinois (Dec. 2), Wisconsin (Dec. 6), Tennessee (Dec. 11) and UCLA (Dec. 14).
