2022 marks PressBox’s sixth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Soccer Phenom
The Baltimore Blast made an interesting signing in December, welcoming 10-year-old Josh Diaz to the team. It paid immediate dividends, however, when he scored the first goal of their season-opening win against Utica City. The circumstances were unique. Diaz had his leg amputated earlier in the year to stop the spread of returning bone cancer. The young soccer player was offered a one-day contract by the team, which worked with its opponents to allow the otherwise ceremonial goal to count.
