2022 marks PressBox’s sixth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
John Marshall
Navy football star John Marshall improved in each of his three seasons as a starter on the Mids’ defense, finishing third on the team in tackles in 2020, second in 2021 and leading the way this year. The senior striker replaced graduated linebacker Diego Fagot as the unit’s unquestioned leader. The unanimous first-team All-American Athletic Conference honoree finished the season with 96 tackles, 19.5 for loss, seven pass breakups and one interception. His two forced fumbles were tied for a team high. The Howard County native and Gonzaga College product set a school record for sacks in a single game with four during Navy’s upset of No. 20 UCF in November and now holds the school’s single-season record in the category.
