Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will miss Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts with an ankle injury, one of six Ravens starters who have been ruled out of the Week 3 game, according to the final injury report.
In addition to Beckham, Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey (foot) will miss his third straight game, and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley (knee), center Tyler Linderbaum (ankle) and safety Marcus Williams (pec) each will miss his second game in a row after being injured in the season opener. The Ravens have also ruled out outside linebacker Odafe Oweh (ankle) and running back Justice Hill (foot), who, like Beckham, were injured in the Ravens’ win at Cincinnati last weekend.
The Colts, meanwhile, have ruled out rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson, who remains in the concussion protocol. The No. 4 overall pick had started the first two games. In his place, the Colts will turn to veteran Gardner Minshew.
“Gardner Minshew has obviously proven he can win in this league,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said. “He’s played very many times. … We’ve watched a lot of him. We understand his game, and we’ll have our hands full. And we’ll have to be at our best to defend him.”
The Colts (1-1) also will be without three-time Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly, who is in the concussion protocol.
Beckham appeared to injury his ankle on a catch in the first half of the Ravens’ 27-24 win at Cincinnati. In two games with his new team, Beckham has five catches for 66 yards. With Beckham sidelined, Nelson Agholor took on a larger role at Cincinnati, leading the Ravens with five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown.
At running back, Hill’s injury occurred a week after top running back J.K. Dobbins was lost for the season with a torn Achilles. The Ravens signed running back Kenyan Drake to the practice squad this week, reuniting with a player who appeared in 12 games for them last season. The Ravens’ backfield against the Colts figures to include Gus Edwards, Melvin Gordon and Drake.
Oweh’s injury puts more pressure on David Ojabo and Jadaveon Clowney as the anchors of a thin edge rush group. Clowney recorded his first sack as a Raven last week and played 78 percent of the defensive snaps.
Malik Harrison can play outside, and rookie Tavius Robinson was pressed into action last week after Oweh left the game. Harbaugh implied that outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon would be elevated from the practice squad for what would be his regular-season debut. Moon spent all of his rookie season in 2022 on the practice squad.
The Ravens also will be without slot cornerback Ar’Darius Washington, who doesn’t show up on the injury report because he has been placed on injured reserve with a chest injury. Humphrey, Washington and Damarion “Pepe” Williams all could play as the top slot cornerback, but all three are injured.
Washington played all but three defensive snaps last week and has 11 tackles and two passes defensed in two games this season. With Washington out, the Ravens could turn to safety Kyle Hamilton in the slot, depending on matchups, but with Williams sidelined, they would need a backup such as Daryl Worley to slide in at safety.
Arthur Maulet is another option in the slot, though he has been a gameday inactive in the first two games. The Ravens have used Brandon Stephens, Ronald Darby and Rock Ya-Sin at outside corner with Humphrey sidelined, and they could look to shift one of them inside as well.
The Colts’ passing attack is led by Michael Pittman, who has 16 catches for 153 yards in two games, and rookie third-round draft pick Josh Downs (7-67).
In addition to missing Richardson and Kelly, the Colts could be without five-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson, who is questionable with a toe injury. Nelson was injured in the Colts’ Week 1 loss to Jacksonville, and though he was questionable last week, he played every snap in the win against Houston in Week 2. He missed two practices this week but practiced fully on Friday. The Colts also have two starting cornerbacks who are questionable in Kenny Moore II and Dallis Flowers, who was added to the injury report Friday.
