Monday Night Football: Chiefs vs. Eagles
Parlay: over 41.5 alternate total + Eagles +4.5 alternate spread
Two elite quarterbacks, high-powered offenses and primetime football? While Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense is a stout unit, the Eagles will be able to reach the 20’s while Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid off a bye won’t be held in the teens.
Patrick Mahomes over 37.5 pass attempts
The Eagles have All-Pros up and down the line of scrimmage in the run game. The Chiefs will still want to run the ball enough to stay balanced, but I expect this game to be a war of attrition between Mahomes off a bye and the Eagles’ sometimes shaky secondary, although the Eagles’ addition of safety Kevin Byard plus a bye week might lead to a strong second half of the season from that unit.
Rashee Rice over 42.5 yards
Rice crossed this mark in three straight games before Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio clamped down on the Chiefs’ offense in a sloppy, close game. Rice has run at least 23 routes in each of the Chiefs’ last four games. With Travis Kelce garnering defensive attention, the Chiefs, coming off a bye, will look for Rice to take the next step.
Travis Kelce anytime touchdown
Kelce has 26 touchdowns in 44 career night games, while posting 26 touchdowns in 65 early slate games. “Mr. Swift” will challenge an Eagles defense that has been susceptible to slot/tight end damage, although recent Eagles addition Kevin Byard is capable of holding Kelce under his game totals if the Eagles choose to align Byard against Kelce consistently.
DeVonta Smith longest reception over 21.5 yards
With Dallas Goedert out, DeVonta Smith sees an uptick in targets and a change of role. Smith’s usage increased when Goedert missed time last season. With A.J. Brown’s dominance, Smith will benefit in single coverage and the Eagles will look for him to provide big plays. Smith has reached this mark in four straight games and seven of his last nine.
D’Andre Swift over 2.5 receptions
With Dallas Goedert out, the Eagles’ run game will suffer a touch. This unit has been inefficient. Perhaps they worked it out during the bye week, but I suspect they will look to get Swift in space by utilizing him in the pass game. He’s one of the three most dangerous skill position players in the Eagles’ offense, and they’ll need him to work after the catch to make the Chiefs respect the width of the field.
