Towson men’s basketball’s Charles Thompson recently chatted with PressBox about his cooking skills, trading places with a movie character and more. The 6-foot-7, 250-pound center is averaging 8.9 points and 7.9 rebounds entering the Tigers’ game against Elon on Feb. 12. Now in his fifth year at Towson, Thompson has earned CAA All-Defensive Team honors three times and has eclipsed 1,100 points and 800 rebounds for his career.
PressBox: What’s your favorite pregame meal?
Charles Thompson: Definitely pasta. We have a lot of pasta for our pregame meals.
PB: What’s your favorite “guilty” food?
CT: Pancakes. I can eat a pancake at any time, it doesn’t matter.
PB: How would you rate your cooking skills and what’s your best dish?
CT: I’ve got to go 10. My best dish, I do a lot of breakfast stuff because I love breakfast. I’m going to go French toast with a Western omelet with hash browns in the omelet and sour cream on top, ham, onions, peppers, all that.
PB: Who was your favorite sports star growing up?
CT: My dad, [Tony Thompson]. He was a professional boxer.
PB: What’s your go-to karaoke song?
CT: “Party in the USA”
PB: What’s a bucket-list place you’ve never been?
CT: Idaho. I don’t know why, it’s just so random. I just want to be there.
PB: If you could trade places with any movie or TV character, who would it be?
CT: The Rock. I just want to be big and be happy all the time. Any Rock movie, it doesn’t matter what it’s going to be. To be specific, “Central Intelligence.”
PB: What show have you been binging lately?
CT: “One Piece.” I watch a lot of anime.
PB: Do you have any pets?
CT: I have six dogs and a cat. There’s four Cane Corsos and there’s one Shih Tzu. They’re with my mom and my dad back home.
PB: What are your favorite and least favorite CAA road trips?
CT: My favorite CAA road trip is definitely that Charleston-UNCW tag-team road trip, especially if you take it around January or February because it’s cold in Towson. My least favorite road trip is Northeastern because the arena is a hockey rink. It’s too cold.
