2024 marks PressBox’s eighth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best College Athletes: Jaeda McFarland
Few players are as valuable to a baseball or softball team as a hitter who can provide power and speed. Jaeda McFarland did that for Maryland softball for four years, but she saved her best for last.
The outfielder hit .356/.413/.617 with 27 extra-base hits and 20 steals in 54 games en route to first-team All-Big Ten honors (and a spot on the conference’s All-Defensive Team, to boot).
McFarland left her mark on the program record book: second in runs scored (137), second in stolen bases (72), third in hits (218) and third in batting average (.340).
