Best Of 2024: Best Continued Dominance

Best Of 2024

2024 marks PressBox’s eighth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.

Best Continued Dominance

Swimmer Jessica Long added to her amazing career medal totals at the Paris Paralympics in September.

The Middle River native claimed gold in the 400-meter freestyle S8 and the 100-meter butterfly S8, bringing her to 18 gold medals and 31 medals overall in her remarkable Paralympic career. Long is now tied for the third-most Paralympic medals of all time.

Perhaps most impressively, the two events she won in Paris are two events she had also won in her first Paralympics … two decades earlier!

Fellow local swimmer Zach Shattuck (Frostburg State/South Carroll) won his first career Paralympic medal, a silver in the mixed 4×50-meter freestyle relay 20 points.
