The Orioles have leaned toward position players early in drafts under general manager Mike Elias, and that was again the case in the 2025 MLB Draft.
The Orioles had seven picks in the first day of the draft, taking five position players across three rounds. The Orioles’ four extra picks came at Nos. 30 and 31 (compensation for losing Corbin Burnes and Anthony Santander in free agency), No. 37 (Bryan Baker trade) and No. 69 (Competitive Balance Round B).
No. 19: Auburn OF/C Ike Irish (pick value: roughly $4.4 million)
The 6-foot-2, 201-pound left-handed batter hit .350/.435/.625 with 92 extra-base hits across three seasons at Auburn. A consensus All-American in 2025, Irish mostly played the outfield in the spring due to injury.
No. 30: Coastal Carolina C Caden Bodine ($3.1 million)
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound switch-hitter batted .337/.440/.528 with 82 extra-base hits across three seasons at Coastal Carolina. The 2025 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award winner has earned strong marks as a receiver behind the plate.
No. 31: Arkansas SS Wehiwa Aloy ($3 million)
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed batter hit .332/.406/.609 with 99 extra-base hits during a three-year college career that began at Sacramento State. Aloy won the Golden Spikes Award and earned SEC Player of the Year honors for his work as a junior in 2025.
No. 37: Summit High School (Ore.) OF Slater de Brun ($2.6 million)
The 5-foot-9, 192-pound left-handed batter often receives comparisons to another undersized outfielder from the Pacific Northwest in Corbin Carroll. de Brun is committed to Vanderbilt.
No. 58: Michigan State LHP Joseph Dzierwa ($1.6 million)
The 6-foot-8, 200-pound left-handed pitcher posted a 3.15 ERA and 276 strikeouts in 254.2 innings during a three-year at Michigan State. Dzierwa had his best season as a junior in 2025, recording a 1.42 ERA and 137 strikeouts in 118.2 innings.
No. 69: Georgia RHP JT Quinn ($1.2 million)
The 6-foot-6, 210-pound right-handed pitcher began his college career with two years at Ole Miss but took a step forward as a junior at Georgia in 2025, posting a 2.75 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 36 innings. Seven of Quinn’s 17 appearances as a Bulldog came as a starter.
No. 93: Vanderbilt OF RJ Austin ($826,400)
The 5-foot-11, 193-pound right-handed batter hit .283/.369/.415 with 60 extra-base hits during his three years at Vanderbilt. Austin earned a spot on the SEC All-Defensive Team as a junior in 2025. He shared an outfield with Orioles prospect Enrique Bradfield Jr. in 2023.
The Orioles’ total bonus pool is roughly $19.1 million. The rest of the draft (Rounds 3-20) will take place on July 14.
