2025 marks PressBox’s ninth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best College Athletes: Laurin Mack
There are plenty of reasons why Maryland men’s soccer had its most successful season since it won the national championship in 2018.
One reason is sophomore Laurin Mack, who finished among the top Big Ten goalkeepers in wins (13), goals-against average (0.94) and save percentage (77.2) en route to conference Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound German showed a flair for the dramatic, too, when he converted the winning penalty kick in the Terps’ match against North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
