It was fair to wonder how Archbishop Spalding football would fare following the graduation of quarterback Malik Washington, who led the Cavaliers to three consecutive MIAA A Conference championships from 2022-2024.
No matter, head coach Kyle Schmitt kept it rolling.
Spalding (10-2) defeated McDonogh, 30-22, for the MIAA A crown in November, rallying from a 16-3 first-half deficit to get the job done. It marked the 34th straight conference victory for the Cavaliers, who became the first MIAA team to win four consecutive outright league titles.
