2025 marks PressBox’s ninth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best High School Female Athlete
You won’t find gaudier statistics anywhere in the Best Of section: Manchester Valley girls’ lacrosse star Emma Penczek had 89 goals, 56 assists, 124 draw controls and 39 caused turnovers as a senior in the spring, bringing her career totals to 329 goals, 158 assists, 437 draw controls and 122 caused turnovers.
She led the Mavericks to a 19-0 season, which included a 17-9 win against Glenelg in the Class 2A state title game. Penczek earned USA Lacrosse High School Girls’ National Player the Year honors for her efforts. She is now preparing for her freshman season at Clemson.
