2025 marks PressBox’s ninth annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Last Ride
The Preakness Stakes has been run at Pimlico Race Course every year since 1873, save for 1891-1893 when no races were held. But since about 1973, the track has needed serious renovations. They’re finally coming, meaning May’s 150th running of the race was the final time it would be held at the OLD “Old Hilltop.”
Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty did not run but the race provided a much-needed win for Journalism. As in, the name of the horse that won the race. Rider Umberto Rispoli became the first Italian jockey to ever win a Triple Crown race.
