About midway through the second half at Marquette in November, Maryland men’s basketball had a chance for its first true road win of the 2025-26 season but it would have to be without star big man Pharrel Payne, who had just gone down with a scary injury.
Shortly thereafter, the Terps turned a 64-60 deficit into a 72-64 lead thanks to threes from Elijah Saunders and Isaiah Watts, transition baskets by Diggy Coit and Darius Adams and another nifty bucket by Coit.
The sequence keyed an 89-82 Maryland win in Buzz Williams’ return to Marquette, where he was the head coach from 2008-2014.
