Before you know it, it will be fantasy football draft time. I have conducted several mock drafts. During the drafts, I will pick in all 12 positions, with all sorts of scenarios.

As a rule, I prefer to draft two starting running backs within the first four rounds. It is a tried-and-true strategy, which has done me well for 25-plus years. If you’ve been following along, I mock with 12 teams, half-point PPR, with the following positions: quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers, tight end, a flex (running back, wide receiver or tight end), kicker, team defense and six bench spots. So, it is a 16-round snake draft.

Today, we are drafting for a Superflex league, which means you can start two quarterbacks. I have the seventh overall pick; let’s see how it all works out. In this format, we are playing in a half-point-per-reception league.

Some observations:

Superflex is a different ballgame, as you can see. Most teams start two quarterbacks each week. You don’t have to start two, but quarterbacks do score more points than others normally. So, the quarterbacks go early and often.

Nine of the first 12 picks in this draft were quarterbacks. Thirteen quarterbacks were drafted in the first two rounds.

If everyone in a 12-team league drafts three quarterbacks, that is 36 quarterbacks. There are 32 NFL teams. You can do the math. I like to draft two quarterbacks in the first four rounds and three quarterbacks total. You have to watch the timing of the quarterback runs later in the draft, so you do not miss out on a third quarterback.

You get crazy roster builds in a Superflex. I started Jahmyr Gibbs and Christian McCaffrey. Right away I have an advantage with two of the top three backs. Coming back in Round 5 with Cam Skattebo gives me three stud backs.

I had to go quarterback in Rounds 3 and 4 since 14 quarterbacks were already off the board. Matthew Stafford and Baker Mayfield will be just fine.

Then I targeted WR1s and high-upside WR2s. Tetairoa McMillan, Parker Washington, DJ Moore, Chris Godwin, Courtland Sutton and Michael Wilson fit that mold.

Overall, I’d be happy to go into the season with this squad!
