2023 marks PressBox’s seventh annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Championship Week
Maryland baseball didn’t make it easy on itself, with three of four games decided by two runs or fewer. But in May, the Terps went a perfect 4-0 in Omaha to claim their first-ever Big Ten tournament title.
Among the heroes was Most Outstanding Player Nick Lorusso, who hit two home runs during the week — including one in the title-clinching win against Iowa.
After the season, Prince George’s County native and Maryland baseball legend Matt Swope was elevated to head coach.
