2023 marks PressBox’s seventh annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Connection
When the Orioles’ version of MLB’s “City Connect” uniforms was unveiled in May, responses were initially mixed. The look seemed kind of, well, basic.
But the story of the colorful interior of the jersey — which was designed to represent the city’s neighborhoods — resonated with fans, as did the black script “B” hats, a reminder that the Negro League Baltimore Elite Giants also wore a B on their caps.
The team’s record wasn’t great initially while wearing the duds, but fans scooped them up. Fans and players alike appreciated seeing “Baltimore” on the front of home uniforms for a change.
