2023 marks PressBox’s seventh annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Day
In a city with only two major professional sports teams, it is rare that we have days when both teams do something particularly special. But on Sept. 17, we got just that.
Just moments after the Ravens finished off a stirring 27-24 road win against Joe Burrow and the defending AFC North champion Bengals, the Orioles provided even greater fireworks.
Adam Frazier (!) provided the late-game heroics with a ninth-inning, game-tying double against a Rays team that had a chance to tie for the AL East lead. Cedric Mullins added a walk-off sac fly in the 11th.
The win clinched the Orioles’ first playoff berth since 2016 and set off an unplanned clubhouse party to celebrate. The day was about as good as it gets for fans of both teams.
