2023 marks PressBox’s seventh annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Reunion
Perhaps the best atmosphere of the season at Camden Yards was a Saturday night game in August, as the return of then-Mets manager Buck Showalter was wildly overshadowed by a 40th anniversary celebration for the 1983 World Series champion Orioles.
The majority of the living members of the championship team returned for the weekend, including legends like Eddie Murray (who received the loudest ovation of the weekend and raucous “Ed-die” chants) and unsung heroes of the team like Tito Landrum.
The pregame festivities were perfectly capped off by ’83 World Series MVP Rick Dempsey leading a Wild Bill Hagy-like “O-R-I-O-L-E-S” chant.
