2023 marks PressBox’s seventh annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Local First-Rounders
The 2023 NFL and NBA Drafts both featured local products.
Cornerback Deonte Banks, a graduate of Edgewood High and Maryland, was drafted by the New York Giants with the No. 24 overall pick. Forward Cam Whitmore, who starred at Archbishop Spalding before heading to Villanova, was taken by the Houston Rockets with the No. 20 pick.
Banks was an immediate contributor for the Giants, picking off two passes during his first 12 NFL games. Whitmore began the season in a reserve role for the Rockets.
