Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman Selected As Starters For 2024 MLB All-Star Game

Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman have been voted in as starters for the American League in the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.

This marks the first selection as a starter for both Henderson and Rutschman. Rutschman was a reserve on last year’s All-Star team and participated in the Home Run Derby.

Henderson has already confirmed that he will be participating in this year’s Home Run Derby.

Rutschman is the third Orioles catcher to win the fan vote, joining Terry Kennedy (1987) and Matt Wieters (2014). Henderson is the first Orioles shortstop selected to the All-Star Game since Manny Machado in 2018.

Rutschman beat out Royals catcher Salvador Perez to earn the starting nod, while Henderson beat out Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.

Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, DH Ryan O’Hearn, outfielder Anthony Santander and third baseman Jordan Westburg were also finalists but did not win the fan vote.

The All-Star pitchers and reserves will be announced on Sunday, July 7 at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN.
