Maryland baseball junior Brayden Martin recently chatted with PressBox about his favorite video game, the best tip he’s ever been given and more. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound utility man hit .294/.436/.343 with 14 extra-base hits in his first two seasons as a Terrapin. Martin is a native of Bowie, Md., and graduate of St. John’s College.
PressBox: What’s a bucket-list place you’ve never been?
Brayden Martin: I’ve seen a lot of cool things in Dubai. Definitely Dubai would be somewhere I’d want to go.
PB: Who was your favorite sports star when you were growing up?
BM: LeBron James
PB: What’s your favorite video game?
BM: “Madden,” for sure.
PB: Do you have a hidden talent?
BM: I can play the saxophone.
PB: What’s your go-to karaoke song?
BM: “Thriller” by Michael Jackson
PB: If you could trade places with any movie or TV character, who would it be?
BM: Will Smith in “I, Robot”
PB: What book have you been reading lately?
BM: We’re reading “Chop Wood Carry Water” [by Joshua Medcalf] as a team, talking about it and bringing up the good points we see as we read through.
PB: What’s your favorite thing about College Park?
BM: Definitely the people. It feels like a home. It’s kind of like a family [atmosphere] just walking outside. Everybody wants you to do well. Everyone seems like they’re pulling for you.
PB: What’s your favorite spot to eat in College Park?
BM: Favorite spot to eat is going to be Little Blue Menu. It’s like a Chick-fil-A [offshoot]. It’s a bunch of different types of things. It’s owned by Chick-fil-A, but it’s a nice spontaneous spot.
PB: What’s the best tip you’ve ever been given?
BM: Be yourself. It’s very short and simple, but I think people get lost in trying to do too much or see other people and think they have to do too much. Just remember to be yourself.
