2023 marks PressBox’s seventh annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best One-Two Punch
UMBC softball won the America East for a fourth consecutive season in May, and for a second straight season, starting pitchers Courtney Coppersmith and Kya Matter led the way.
The two combined to post a 2.02 ERA and strike out 254 hitters in 218.2 innings for the Retrievers in 2023.
UMBC finished 117-75 overall during Coppersmith’s record-breaking career in Catonsville. Matter will look to carry the torch in 2024.
