2023 marks PressBox’s seventh annual Best Of edition celebrating the top people, performances and moments of the year.
Best Prime-Time Return
Prior to 2023, the last time the Orioles had hosted ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” was Aug. 26, 2018. A 5-3 loss to the Yankees dropped the Birds to … 37-94.
The weekly showcase treated the Orioles a little bit better on July 30, when a seven-run first inning powered the Orioles to a 9-3 win against the Yankees in front of 37,429 fans. Adam Frazier had the biggest swing, a three-run home run to right field off of Luis Severino.
O’s pitchers were dominant as well, striking out 18 to set a new franchise record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game.
